The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center
Hosts 3rd Annual Swim-A-Thon to Support
Scholarships for Physically Challenged Athletes
The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is calling athletes of all ages and skill levels to take part in a weeklong Swim-A-Thon to raise funds for Swim with Mike, a scholarship fund for physically challenged athletes. The RBAC will “kick off” the Swim-A-Thon on Friday, April 5th at 12:30 p.m. with Mike Nyeholt, Founder of Swim with Mike, John Naber, Olympic Swimmer and teammate of Mike Nyeholt, and past scholarship recipients and conclude Friday, April 12th.
Register online at www.swimwithmike.org or pick up forms at the RBAC. When registering, be sure to write in your affiliation with the RBAC!
“Swim in the morning, at lunch or in the evening – whenever it is convenient, “stated Chad
Durieux, RBAC Head Coach, Masters Swim. “ Bring your school group, club or even swim with the Masters Swim Team! Reduce stress, get in shape and help a worthy cause at the same time!”
Participants are encouraged to obtain sponsors and sponsors may pledge a flat rate or an amount per lap with no minimum required. Any donation is greatly appreciated and donations may be cash, check or credit card. Those who raise a minimum of $50 will receive a ticket to the Swim With Mike Barbeque event held on April 13th at USC and a mini Goodie Bag. Those who raise $100 or more will receive commemorative items that may include: a T-Shirt, Goodie Bag, (Swim with Mike) 32nd Anniversary Tile Coaster, Sweatshirt, Collectors Mug and Beach Towel.
The RBAC hopes to raise $10,000 for Swim with Mike. “Mike’s story and commitment to
helping others is remarkable,” exclaimed Kurt Knop, Executive Director. “It’s an honor to
support his worthy cause, especially as he is a longtime RBAC lap swimmer. I hope that all
members of the RBAC community will participate and help this great effort.”
The Swim-A-Thon at the RBAC leads up to the 33rd Annual Swim with Mike event on April 13th from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at USC Uytengsu Aquatics Center and Howard Jones Field. This fun-filled day includes food, entertainment, celebrities, a swim clinic with Olympians, raffle prizes, massage center, silent auction and Kid’s Corner.
