Carson Fox

"I want to use my degree to help other people with disabilities live a healthier lifestyle."

In March of 2021, when he was a high school freshman varsity football long snapper, Carson was diagnosed with a rarely occurring cancer in his left leg called Telangiectatic Osteosarcoma (T.O). When there was no response to the initial chemotherapy treatments, by the end of May 2021 his leg had to be amputated above the knee to save his life.

He had been playing baseball since he was 4 years old and started playing flag football in kindergarten, then played tackle football until his diagnosis. But the amputation did not sway him from continuing his love of sports, and soon he was fitted with a running blade which allowed him to compete in the 100-meter dash. He also throws the javelin and shot put. He is a two-time U.S, Paralympic High School All-American and CIF State High School Track and Field Shot Put champion. He was the Los Angeles Times Sondheimer Spirit Award winner in 2023 and is also a U.S. Paralympic Emerging Athlete.

Outside of competition, Carson enjoys wakeboarding, snowboarding and weightlifting and is excited to become a member of the University of Alabama adaptive track and field program and will study kinesiology with an emphasis in sports exercise.
