Evie Hilburn

Evie has been riding horses since she was six years old. Her skills were further sharpened in barrel racing and while she was in eighth grade she started competing in Little Britches Rodeo Association events.  She also played travel volleyball in eighth grade, as well as soccer. She continued with volleyball as a high school freshman and flourished in her multi-sport activities until she was in a UTV accident in April 2022.  Sustaining a C7-T1 spinal cord fracture which resulted in quadriplegia, Evie’s “new normal” was about to begin accompanied by an unwavering faith.

She was just 15 and though it was “super easy to obsess over what I lost; I was about to learn how to live again.” She started applying the discipline she learned in sports to her daily therapy at home in Louisiana and bi-weekly therapy in Dallas. Evie’s realized her goal to attend college and no longer dwells on what she can’t do and is grateful for the people she’s met who have participated in her emotional and physical healing. She says, “Not to say this injury was easy to come to terms with, but all that matters is that I did, and I am so thankful to be here today.” She likes watching criminal trials and is interested in forensics, criminal justice and law. She will be taking online classes at LSU.
