Profile

Molly Higley

Molly was born and raised in Long Beach, California where she attended Long Beach Polytechnic, playing soccer. She also loved to play tennis and dance. Molly went on to the University of Southern California where she was very active in student activities, a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, a Pepster Coordinator and a volunteer for Swim With Mike. She graduated as a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude and went on to a successful career as a commercial real estate appraiser. In May 2008 while on vacation with her husband in Namibia their plane crashed breaking Molly’s back resulting in paralysis at the L-1 level. She returned home to Long Beach, rehabbing at Long Beach Memorial Hospital where she helped found and is the current president of the Long Beach Memorial Women’s Spinal Cord Injury Support Group and serves as a Peer Counselor for inpatients at the hospital. While Molly has worked hard to improve her physical capabilities she came to the realization that it would be nearly impossible to continue her career as a commercial real estate appraiser because many of the buildings do not allow for wheelchair access. After obtaining a Masters degree in Social Work, her goal is to become a licensed psychotherapist and work in a private practice setting, specializing in working with individuals, couples and families dealing with spinal cord injury. Molly moved with her husband Chris and her two children to Texas and is currently living in San Diego, California.
