Scoba Rhodes

Sports and music have always been a part of Scoba’s life. From little league baseball to track and field he went on to play football at Bowdoin before enlisting in the US Navy. While stationed in San Diego he played on his ship’s rugby team, continued with his running and coached the younger children in his family. Everything changed when in November of 2009 following a planned surgery to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm he awoke to find that he was paralyzed from the waist down. While lying in the hospital in complete despair came the realization that it was not the world’s responsibility to stop and wait for him to rejoin it, but rather his obligation to heal and get out and rejoin the world. Scoba plans to use his Masters in Social Work to help others that have sustained traumatic injuries encounter this major life crossroads. The toughness learned from sports and his USC education will help him accomplish these goals.
