Beatrice de Lavalette
Born and raised in France to American parents, Beatrice always wanted to be a professional athlete, riding ponies and horses since she was three years old. At the British School of Paris she ran Track & Field (100m, 200m, and high jump; winning gold in high jump at the International Schools Sports Tournament European Championship). At the British School of Brussels she played varsity women’s soccer (winning two silver ISST medals). In addition, Bea has competed in dressage and hunter equitation shows, going to the French Nationals four years in a row.In March, 2016, Beatrice was critically injured during the Brussels Airport terrorist attacks. She sustained severe internal injuries, burns, a spinal cord injury, and lost both lower legs. Four months later she got back on her horse and made the decision to ride again and set her goals on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.One of Bea’s early mentors was SWM alum Sarah Reinertsen. Bea wants to help and inspire others as Sarah did for her. While training for Tokyo, Bea is studying entrepreneurship at USD. She wants to start a company that makes affordable adaptive sports equipment.
