An All American swimmer from UCLA, Becki was injured in a body surfing accident. While still in the hospital, Mike Nyeholt walked into her room on crutches and offered her a scholarship to USC and a specially equipped van, making her the second Swim With Mike scholarship recipient. Winner of the Ms. Wheelchair California honor, Becki studied exercise physiology in the graduate program at USC. She also earned a master’s in business administration (MBA). Becki is employed by Cal Optima, a healthcare management organization in Orange County. She was married to Richard Melli in 1996.
