Jorge Mendoza
Jorge was born in Mexico and moved to the US as a child. He played many sports then hit his stride as a member of the basketball team and track teams at El Camino Real High School. Soon after high school, a life-long vascular malformation began to limit his activity for the next five years as he tried to save his leg. He ultimately chose to have elective surgery to remove his right leg below the knee. This tough decision gave him his life back albeit with new challenges and opportunities. Jorge completed his AA degree at Los Angeles Community College in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Math and Science leading to his studies in Kinesiology at Cal State Los Angeles. As an amputee, Jorge has competed in many elite level competitions in triathlon and running and ran his first marathon in 2013. He loves to surf and compete in “mud runs”. Jorge has served and continues to serve as an advocator, mentor, an example for individuals with physical limitations.
