Nicholas Picciolo

Nick was always active and played sports as long as he can remember. He played high school football and baseball at Notre Dame High School of Sherman Oaks. An ACL tear in a team scrimmage forced Nick to sit out his sophomore football season and he reinjured it during the spring baseball season. In his senior year, he focused on baseball and was selected team captain leading the team to the quarterfinals. During Nick's freshman year at the University of Arizona, he decided to focus on academics but stayed active playing pickup basketball and working out consistently. Three days before he returned to school for his sophomore year Nick suffered a C 6-7 spinal cord injury while body surfing at Zuma Beach. He took a year off from school for rehab and transferred to Loyola Marymount University where he majored in economics. Determined to be successful he always said that “athletics helped me to develop a strong work ethic, a resilient attitude, and a disciplined focus.”Nick passed away suddenly in August of 2019 nearly seven years after his devastating accident. His family asked that donations be made in his honor to Swim With Mike as the organization had such a positive effect on his life. Rest in Peace dear Nick. You will be missed by all of us.
