Help me raise money for future scholarship recipients.
Sean Abercrombie
"I would support Swim with Mike and honor the organization as a scholarship recipient and as an alumni recipient by educating those around me on SCI and illustrating how life can not only move forward but thrive."
Baseball has been a part of Sean’s life since he was four years old, playing for the Alpharetta Youth Baseball Association (AYBA). He went to Cooperstown with the AYBA 12U All Star team in 2018 and represented his team in the home run skills competition called, King of Swat. Soon he was playing for club teams Georgia Bombers and Georgia Jackets, and for Alpharetta HS, where he won the best hitter award.
In the summer of 2022, in North Georgia with a friend, Sean climbed a tree to a rope swing, swung out over the river, let go and landed on his neck. His friend pulled him to the shore and with no cell phone service to call 911 for help, drove him to the nearest hospital. The following week he was transferred to Atlanta’s Shepherd Center where he found strength from family, friends and the center’s staff while facing an uncertain future. With determination he hit goal after goal, learning to use his arms again, “but differently.” He graduated on time, has taught himself to fish and hunt again, and is looking forward to college.
As a kinesiology major, he hopes to work in research for spinal cord injury rehab and has a desire to illustrate how he has not only moved forward but is thriving, and said, “It’s a journey that continues to shape me.”
